A Delicious Indian Fry Bread Recipe -
Paratha

This flaky Indian fry bread recipe makes for excellent party food appetizers and party snacks. They also serve as great finger food ideas to be used as travel snacks, in lunch-boxes, or light brunch items...

To make this Indian fry bread recipe, the dough is rolled out and brushed with ghee, folded, brushed with ghee again, and folded again to form a quartered layered pie slice. This slice is then rolled out again.

This triangle is placed on a hot griddle. The heat makes the layers of dough swell and puff, resulting flaky, pastry like flat breads...

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup wholemeal plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
30g ghee or oil
2/3 (170 ml) cup water


INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Sift 1 cup (150 g/5oz) wholemeal plain flour and 1 teaspoon salt into a large bowl. Return the husks to the bowl.

2. Make a well and add the ghee or oil and 2/3 cup water. Mix with a flat-bladed knife to a soft dough, gather into a ball, then turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes.

3. Place in an oiled bowl, cover loosely and leave in a warm place for 1 hour.

4. Knead for 1 minute, divide into four, then cut each portion into four. Roll out each piece on a lightly floured surface until 2mm (1/8 inch) thick. Melt an extra 90 g (3 oz) ghee and brush some over each circle.

5. Fold the circle in half to make a semi-circle, brush with ghee and fold in half again to make a triangle. Roll toa think triangle.

6. Brush some ghee in a large frying pan and heat. Brush each triangle with gee and cook for 1-2 minutes each side. Or until puffed and golden brown.

Serve, makes 16
